Tuesdays with Morrie is a nice movie. And when I started to watch this movie;
I don’t want to be disturbed.
I liked this movie for several reasons. One being I had a teacher in my senior year in high school who was my inspiration. She pushed me and motivated me to go over and beyond the call of duty and to that I give her many thanks. Whenever I had a problem I could go and talk to her and she would be there for me. At times she was my mom and other times she was a friend. Just like Mitch, there were times in which Morrie served as Mitch's teacher and other times when he was just a friend.
When I first looked at the movie title I wondered why was the title what it was. Then after watching the movie and realizing that everything they did took place on a Tuesday made perfect sense. Morrie's classes were on Tuesdays, his office hours were on Tuesdays, their get together were on Tuesdays, and so was Morrie's funeral. Symbolism and irony is what I could call this. By this being a true story, it is really awkward that all these events occurred on Tuesdays.
Morrie's courage was very evident, he was not afraid to die, unlike most of us. Most people are terrified of death, and it is hard to deal with it, especially when you do not know when it is going to occur. However, Morrie knew death was approaching soon and he did not show fear. He continued to live his life as any other person would.
"Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live. Morrie thinks that people reject to accept as true that they will one day depart this life, and for that reason, they do not live their lives as completely as they wanted it to be. Also, they represent many regrets as they grow older and their end becomes closer. Morrie sees that as soon as people learn and accept that they are going to die one day, they learn how to live their lives wholly and without any misgivings. He recurs this quote constantly during the chapters to highlight how significant and helpful it is to admit death, and what an advantage it will be for people to live the rest of their lives. Death, this scary thought that people usually run away from is what whole life about. Everyone on earth is going to die, but the problem is that people just deny this undeniable truth because, as humans’ nature, they are afraid of this anonymous thing. Therefore, they either ignore it or totally deny it and this is the cause of their sufferance in life. It is all about ones’ will and courage to face his destiny, not running from it.
