“Basureros”
REFLECTION PAPER

“Don’t judge the book by its own cover.” It means that you shouldn’t judge a person by its own physical appearances. You must know or go “deeper” to his/her personality.

In my own point of view to this story, not all “basureros” were as bad as what some of the people think. In this story, the man hates scavengers because of the bad experiences that he’d encountered with these kinds of people. But, at the time that he met these young scavengers who were collecting garbage to earn for a living, and also to provide the needs of their sick father, his mind was opened and he now fully understand or realized that not all “basureros”, specifically kids, where like those who give him bad experiences in the past. Same with the man, though I haven’t encountered these kind of people, I learned that in spite of the tragedy that came to their lives, they still remain strong to be able for them to reach their goals in life. Unlike to some people, when mistakes and bad luck happens to their lives, they became or turned weak, thus, allowing more misfortunes to come or happen. But to these kids, even the worst tragedy or the darkest side of life, they still pursue on what they believe is true and they never give up and they’ll do anything for their dreams to come true.
